Mike Nguyen was born in Connecticut and raised in Los Angles, California. His mother was a ballerina/model and his father was a model/dancer. Mike Nguyen was always surrounded by talented artists and people.
“At the age of 6 my father took me to my first runway show event, I didn’t know what to make of it at the time, but I was excited never the less.”
As he got older, in his teen years, his father would ask him to work at his boutique in San Francisco.
“I would always have to style and display the latest lines on the mannequin from Christian Dior, Gucci, Versace, Coach, Dolce & Gabanna. On slow days, when I had nothing to do, I would rummage through hundreds of fashion magazines and coffee table books, fascinated by the photography that went into a high fashion spread.”
As Mike Nguyen got older, he took a career path in college towards graphic arts and interior design. Though discovering Photoshop, when it first came out, was an enlightening turning point, he would play around with it every chance he got, finding himself using it more and more, as a hobby turned into a passion.
“I was approached by a friend of mine, she asked me to take pictures of her for a magazine submission, which I hesitantly did, thinking that it would not look good enough, since I never really photographed anything like that before.”
Mike Nguyen began to shoot whenever he could, as a hobby. Remembering how much he loved looking at fashion magazines, he started reading educational books and teaching himself the art of high fashion digital photography. Realizing how passionate he was, and how much he loved fashion, he started blending his Photoshop technique with his photography. Working with the right people, quality publications, talented designers, stylists, hair/make-up artists, editors and agency represented models has been a key roll in his success as a fashion photographer.
“I now have been shooting for a total of four years, I still have much to learn, but I feel like I finally have my own signature look that I’m always refining.”
